Foursquare, a location-based social networking service for mobile users, continues to grow rapidly, having climbed to the three million user mark over the weekend.
To put that into perspective, it took Foursquare a full year before the service recorded one million users, and then just three months to double up its userbase to two million back in early July.
It appeared Foursquare was on the bubble when Facebook released its own location-based feature earlier this month, but in an interview with The L.A. Times, Foursquare co-founder Dennis Crowley said his service had the busiest day of signups following Facebook's announcement.
Impressive as the growth rate might be, Foursquare isn't the only geolcation service to reach three million users. MyTown reach the same milestone a few weeks ago, while Loopt now claims over 4 million users.
