McAfee Feeling Lighter, More Nimble after Shedding 250 Workers
We hate to read about job cuts during the holiday season (or any time during the year, but especially now), and McAfee said it was a "difficult decision" to trim its workforce, but ultimately felt that's what needed to be done if the company's going to grow in 2012. The Intel-owned security outfit handed out around 250 pink slips, effectively reducing its workforce by 3 percent. "In order to better prepare the company for growth in 2012 we have made the difficult decision to reduce a small percentage of our global workforce," a McAfee spokesman told Reuters. McAfee's ultimate goal is to operate more efficiently and readjust its focus on core businesses, which purportedly will not be affected by the job cuts. Intel, which acquired McAfee for $7.7 billion earlier in the year, said McAfee management made the independent decision to slash its workforce.
