With inflation squeezing margins lately, one line item always gets a long, hard look: the hardware replacement budget. It usually sounds something like this: "Our office desktops are turning four years old this winter, but they still turn on and load Microsoft Word. Can we just push them another two or three years and save ourselves the capital expense?" I understand the desire to save a dollar. Sure, it's nice to get a flashy new smartphone or upgrade a laptop to something much better, but these days it just feels like another expense without really making major improvements. However, it isn’t always a matter of throwing money at a problem to solve it. Sometimes it's just a matter of using the technology you have in better, more effective ways.
